Welcome

just
one dog won't change the world

it
surely will change the world for that one dog.

This

and children may be

Unfortunately,
there
are some people that will take advantage of a group like this.
For that reason, we ask that you please be extremely cautious when and
if placing
your pet through the group,
or anywhere else for that matter!
Rowan County Furbabies is hosted by Rowan rEcycle.
In February,
2005 Rowan
rEcycle went to "offers" only on the group for pets. We had
noticed a very large volume of "wanteds" for dogs. It didn't seem to
matter what breed the dog was or even if it was healthy.
Most have a preference to a Toy dog or a Great Dane sized pet.
After doing
some research we found that in
February, 2005 a dog fighting ring was busted here in Salisbury, NC. It
saddens us to even think of the "possible" pets that may have been
placed into the hands of people like this from the members not knowing
what they had in
mind.
Please
be extremely cautious
if placing your pet into a new home!
Here are several tips
that we hope will help.
•
If
at all possible, do a home visit with several follow up visits to be
sure your pet is happy and safe. A person that has the best of welfare
for your pet will not have a problem with you returning. If they do,
grab your pet and run! Run fast!
•
Consider
having a phone/email exchange to discuss what type of care they will be
able to give the animal.
•
Be sure
the
new pet owners have adequate space for a new family addition.
•
Find
out if
your pet
is going to be crated 24/7, not get the attention they deserve or
possibly
placed with other pets that they may not get along with.
Try to avoid the
following:
Giving
a
large pet to a person in a small apartment, no yard, etc.
A
very
young
kitten to a family with several rambunctious children.
A
new
puppy
to someone who must leave it alone all day, everyday.
A
rabbit to
someone who doesn't have room for the proper sized hutch.
